Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept or bill insurance. Our practice operates on a membership model, with all fees—both membership and any additional services—paid before or at the time of service. We do not provide superbills or submit claims to insurance or Medicare.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Memberships can be paid monthly or annually at a discounted rate.

Why don't you accept insurance?

Insurance contracts often limit the time and types of care we can provide. To deliver the personalized, comprehensive care our patients deserve—especially in lifestyle and functional medicine—we choose not to participate with insurance. This allows us to spend more time with you and tailor care to your needs, not an insurance company’s restrictions.

Most routine labs ordered through LabCorp or Quest can still be billed to your insurance. For those without coverage, we’ve negotiated reduced cash rates that are often lower than typical copays. Some specialty labs may not be covered; please check with your insurance provider for details. We are unable to verify or manage individual insurance benefits, but are transparent about the cost of labs prior to ordering them.

Who is a typical Med Fit Culture patient?

Anyone ready to take control of their health. We work with people who are already healthy and want to optimize their healthspan to those managing complex chronic conditions—like autoimmune disease, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, thyroid issues, heart disease, arthritis, and mood disorders—as well as those who feel “off” despite normal labs. Whether you’re looking to reduce medications, improve energy, or get to the root of unexplained symptoms, we take a personalized, inside-out approach and coordinate with your existing providers as needed. This program works in collaboration with your current medical care.

This program is not for those that are extremely ill or have a debilitating chronic disease. An example is someone who requires periodic overnight hospitalizations because of their chronic disease. It is also not for those who are unwilling to listen to the advice of their primary care and specialist treating physicians, or refuse to take prescriptions. This program is for those that deeply value their health, are highly coachable, like accountability, are responsive to positive feedback, and are honest with themselves and others. The goal of this program is not perfection; Instead, the goal is for personal growth!

What do treatments entail?

Treatments focus on lifestyle interventions—nutrition, movement, sleep, stress reduction, and relationships—tailored to your goals. We may also recommend supplements or prescription medications when appropriate. Our approach blends conventional and holistic care, guided by what’s safe, effective, and aligned with your preferences. A strong patient-practitioner relationship is central to the healing process, and we prioritize time to build that trust.

Are you my primary physician?

No. Dr. Jerald Cook provides lifestyle and functional medicine consultations only and does not serve as your primary care physician. You are required to maintain a primary care provider for routine physicals, wellness visits, and urgent or after-hours care. We do not handle urgent requests, including calls or messages.

Metabolic Reset FAQ

How is this different from other programs?

Most programs focus on short-term fixes. This one resets your foundation. The Metabolic Reset Program is designed to work with your biology—addressing the root causes of poor energy, cravings, hormonal imbalances, and weight gain. It goes far beyond weight loss to teach you how to build metabolic health, resilience, and lasting vitality—before chronic disease takes hold. This is the foundation for a stronger, healthier future.

How is the support different from other programs?

Support is at the core of the Metabolic Reset experience. You won’t just be handed information—you’ll be guided every step of the way. Through a blend of 1-on-1 check-ins, group sessions, and real-time feedback, we help you stay accountable, informed, and motivated. Our goal is to make sure your questions are answered, your progress is supported, and your success is sustainable.

How much weight will I lose?

That depends on your body and your goals. Some participants lose 15–45 pounds in 6 weeks, especially if they’re starting with excess weight or inflammation. Others have no weight to lose—but still see major improvements in energy, focus, metabolic flexibility, and recovery. This program isn’t just about the number on the scale—it’s about restoring balance, reducing cravings, optimizing body composition, and building habits that support long-term performance and vitality.

What will I be eating?

You’ll be eating real, whole foods that support energy, metabolism, and healing. The plan focuses on nutrient-dense meals with plenty of greens and non-starchy vegetables, balanced with lean protein, healthy starches, and fruit. But don’t worry—if vegetables aren’t your favorite, we’ll help you find simple, practical ways to ease them in and make them enjoyable. You’ll have access to over 100 delicious recipes and flexible strategies to meet you where you are—no perfection required.

What if I am on medication?

If you're on medication, we’ll take that into careful account. As a physician-led program, we review your case to ensure the approach is safe and appropriate for your needs. If you're taking medications for blood pressure or diabetes, it's especially important to monitor both your symptoms and your levels—such as blood glucose and blood pressure—since many participants experience rapid improvements. Medication adjustments may be necessary as your body responds to the program. For those with diabetes, we recommend using a continuous glucose monitor for real-time insights and safety throughout the reset.

Why do you suggest no/little exercise?

The first phase of the program is focused on restoring balance—not adding more stress. Many people, including high performers and athletes, enter the reset in a state of nervous system overload or hormonal dysregulation caused by peak training, overtraining, poor recovery, or chronic stress.

To promote healing, we start with low-intensity, restorative activities such as walking, yoga, gentle rebounding, and sauna use. This helps lower cortisol, improve heart rate variability (HRV), and shift the body into a parasympathetic state for optimal repair. As your energy, resilience, and metabolic markers improve, we reintroduce training in a strategic, goal-oriented way that enhances performance and supports long-term health.

What happens when the 10-weeks are finished?

Your journey continues with the support of Med Fit Culture. After completing the Metabolic Reset, many participants transition into other lifestyle medicine, health coaching, or performance-oriented goals. Depending on your needs, a periodic reset may be appropriate, but the focus shifts to long-term health, resilience, and optimization.

Med Fit Culture operates as a membership-based model, offering personalized lifestyle and functional medicine support. You'll continue to receive ongoing guidance, assessments, and strategies tailored to your unique goals—whether you're focused on sustaining weight loss, improving biomarkers, training for endurance events, or simply feeling your best in daily life.

Who is this program NOT for?

This program is not for those that are extremely ill or have a debilitating chronic disease. An example is someone who requires periodic overnight hospitalizations because of their chronic disease. It is also not for those who are unwilling to listen to the advice of their primary care and specialist treating physicians, or refuse to take prescriptions. This program is for those that deeply value their health, are highly coachable, like accountability, are responsive to positive feedback, and are honest with themselves and others. The goal of this program is not perfection; Instead, the goal is for personal growth!

Is this program good for athletes?

Absolutely. Periodization is essential for longevity in sport—and that includes how you train, fuel, and recover. Athletes apply intentional stress to the body to drive overcompensation and adaptation, but without proper recovery and metabolic balance, that stress can lead to chronic inflammation, fatigue, and burnout.

The Metabolic Reset is designed to align with the demands of athletic training. It can be strategically timed within your macrocycles to help manage inflammation, support recovery, and improve metabolic efficiency. This is especially valuable for masters athletes, who must be even more intentional about recovery, hormone balance, and long-term performance.

Unlike one-size-fits-all programs, Med Fit Culture provides a personalized approach that supports both your sport and your health.
